Lasik Eye Surgery Risks
Lasik eye surgery risks are minimal but every form of surgery carries some risk.
What you don’t need to be concerned about…
First, however, let’s quickly cover the things you don’t have to be concerned about:
- Lasik does not increase your chances of cataracts, does not cause cataracts, nor does it affect the removal of cataracts.
- This form of Lasik eye surgery correction has shown a remarkable stability with little change in “perfect” vision for at least 10 years.
- Lasik does not require an eye patch.
- There is no evidence of long-term health problems related to this form of Lasik eye surgery.
- According to FDA studies, no American has ever suffered profound vision loss as a result of Eximer laser surgery for vision correction.
Are there no risks then?
As we said at the top of the page, no surgery is risk free. Even with everything perfect, there’s always a minimal risk of something going wrong. An infection or an unknown medical condition or an accident at home or at work can cause unforeseen problems. Your surgeon and their team will do everything they can to prevent any Lasik eye surgery risk. It is in their best interest to make sure every patient walks out of surgery smiling.
